I was trying to knock back one area of the picture (actually two) and was using the magic wand with a mixture of tools including levels and contrast and brightness adjustments. I thought that I had made the necessary adjustments to avoid that sort of effect you p9ointed out :-). ( I hate using blurring and do it by hand where I can). In fact in PS looking at the image at 33% it looked fine. It was only when I posted it and you (I presume) looked at the large version that it became clear. Thanks for noticing it.
