Eric,
I have had good results in the past with High Pass sharpening, using
blending mode as Soft Light and layer transparency under 20%. Now I
use the High Pass filter only for minimal boosts in edge contrast
when converting to B&W some very low contrast scenes.
If you are not sure about parameter settings for the high pass
sharpening procedure, just email me offlist and I'll try to help.
