I caught this in today's ASMP newswatch. Yet another news story
about a photographer being arrested. Land of the free indeed. More
like land of the scared.

Last week Ben Hider, a photographer in White Plains, NY, was detained
by police for several hours because he took pictures of the flags in
front of the court house. Later, a spokesman for the court
administration issued an apology. But the police union refused to
apologize, saying the officers were trying to follow their
instructions in the absence of a sensible policy. Apparently, in a
previous situation, the cops were scolded by court officials for NOT
detaining an individual.
