I'm trying to bump DOWN the contrast. Maybe a woofer is not so bad in my

Interesting Slobodan,
I have one and with the exception of contrast is every bit the equal of my
Gen IV Summicron.  Large prints are no problem, you just have to be more
aggressive in curves to bump up the contrast.
