If you are in a location that has lots of shelf like surfaces then a Bogen superclamp and a ball head do wonderful things for cameras or lights. Put the correct size bolt through the handle of a sheet rock knife and you can mount a camera almost anywhere there is a thin crack wide enough for the knife. Buy the correct size screw at the hardware store and you can screw a bolt into a tree and mount a ball head on the other end so in any forest you have a solid mount. But for most just walk about photography, the legs of the Leica and a ball head will do the job with little size, weight or preplanning.
