They're small, and the dark slides are easy to lose, but it's the only way to load an M3. I'll send you some if you need 'em. Cheers! Chandos -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+chandos=cox.net@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+chandos=cox.net@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Kyle Cassidy Sent: Monday, November 14, 2005 4:25 PM To: 'lug@leica-users.org' Subject: [Leica] M3 help My leica d100 started shocking me yesterday. Literally. ZAP!ZAP! So I sent it into the shop and borrowed a leica m3 rander-finger thingie off of the rental shelf. I scratched my head for five minutes and couldn't figure out how to get the chip in, when I realized it took film. Now I can't figure out how to get the back open. It drops in somewhere, right? The film, that is. I'm pulling up on the rewind crank but it seems stuck. There aren't any other buttons on the top that could possibly open up the door. I even hung it from an eye hook and used my body weight to yank on it, this is how you make the door on the back of the camera pop open isn't it? I can SEE a crack in the back where there's some sort of door that opens up, this must be where the film goes. Putting a thin screwdriver in there I'm able to get a TINY bit of play. I tapped it a few times with a rubber mallet and succeeded in getting maybe 4 or 5 mm of the screwdriver into the back of the camera, and if I pry VERY HARD it moves up a little, tiny bit. At this rate it's going to take me two days to get this film in here. What's with this camera? UPDATE: I managed to pop the door on the back of the camera open, it flaps around like a square door, hinged at the TOP and won't close properly now, but in any event, THERE'S NO ROOM FOR THE FILM IN THERE. It's just a flat square in front of the shutter curtian, I can tell it's the shutter curtian, because I poked my finger through it. Q: ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO LOAD FILM INTO THIS CAMERA ONE FRAME AT A TIME? DOES THIS NEED TO BE DONE IN TOTAL DARKNESS? Q2: WHERE DO THE BATTERIES GO?
