Matte prints on "fine art paper" look great for certain photos -- those which are "high scale", have pastel colors, or those without very dense blacks, but matte prints can look anemic next to air dried fiber prints when dense blacks are an important part of the picture. Whether or not it looks exactly like an air dried fiber print or not, densitometer tests indicate that epson premium luster has the highest Dmax with the new K3 inks (supposedly higher than premium glossy or even pictorico HGWF but I haven't yet tested these side by side myself) For the moment I am sticking with RedRiver Dourian Art as a matte paper (although I'll be trying out the Museo Max soon) -- these are for "softer" photos, and using Premium Luster when I want a bit more "punch" in the print.. sort of like the difference between a sulphide toned print or a platinum prints and an air dried fiber print with a touch of selenium -- just enough to give the blacks a bit more punch. Likewise if you are looking to get that real cibachrome look in a print, the matte papers won't quite do it. Jonathan
