I examine my negatives first by lying on the couch and looking at them with a back-light through a reversed 50mm lens (the closest one). Now-a-days I have bad shoulders and a disaster for a right arm, so I've got a light-table on my wish-list in case the kids ever want to show their elders some appreciation. I'm not holding my breath. I am probably doing something wrong. Each negative ends up around 120 MB, so to scan them all would be a chore.
