You can use it to sharpen the image you see through the viewfinder.
NB: It's only the viewfinder image that is focussed, not the actual
film image. It's like a built in diopter lens on the viewfinder. Push
it all the way out, if you are focussing on an object far away and
pull it towards you if you are viewing something close by and it looks
blurry.
