Ken,
The question that will determine your purchase is, at what aperture do
you usually use a lens like this?  If you frequently use F2 to F2.8
then the current ASPH lens would be my choice(or the 1.4 used) as they
are very sharp even wide open.  If however, you usually use a lens at
F4 to F8 then either version 4 or the new Zeiss offering would be my
choice as they are somewhat less expensive and will have a somewhat
more pleasing background.

By f4 the version 4 lens is almost as good as the current version so
why spend the money?
