New Orleans gangs fire at Police on any given day. They will not care about
firing at copters or anything else. they do not care about anyone but
themselves. Problem now is they may be running into each other on the
streets, and killing anyone in the way. I've read online there are dead
people on Jackson/Magazine St. This is my or was my neighborhood.

New Orleans is poor, and always has been. You have to see that some of these
people are actually proud that the have had generations of family living in
projects. Public education is non-exisistent, most mothers are single ith
3-4 kids.

The city never even mentioned an escape plan for the poor. Public buses
could have gotten people out before Katrina hit.

I guess the thing is that people's expectations increase in line with
their experience. If you're used to all the modern conveniences it
comes as hell of a shock when they vanish, and you realise how fragile
the world really is.

Firing on rescue choppers though! What the hell's that all about? Seems
we're witnessing more than just the aftermath of a natural disaster
here.

Good luck in Guatemala, and I wish you a safe trip. I'm sure we'll see
some great pictures when you return.
