I've done it lots of times. My favorite is shooting a convention
photo with a rented 6x12 back. I forgot to pull out the dark slide
first time around, which I found out when I had the film processed
over lunch. To top it off, I made the whole convention sit for
another one, without checking the focus. Apparently someone has moved
the ladder that the camera was mounted on during lunch. This threw my
focus completely off, especially as I was shooting almost wide open
and using the swings and tilts of the front standard to get my plane
of sharpness.
