Richard,

It is not the price tag I find out of line, but the combination of the 
price tag and the problems you have had. If I buy a camera for $3K I 
expect it to work perfectly out of the box and to stay that way for the 
duration of a reasonable service life (barring user abuse etc.).

When/if Leica comes out with its digital M, I will certainly consider it 
very carefully, but I will not plonk down any cash until you and others 
  have beta-tested it for me ;-)
