Thanks for the comments, B. D. Yes, BART is a clean and bright system.
It isn't cheap but I was surprised at the number of folks riding it
even at 10 PM and before the baseball crowds had really hit.

You'd find the Muni trolleys much more to your liking, I think,
especially the one we took to the game - there had been a breakdown
and there were no more cars anticipated in "quite a while" so they
crammed us into the two cars that did arrive. It was a time for
serious friendliness! But since almost everyone aboard were headed to
the game spirits were good - only the few people trapped in the middle
who needed to actually get out were a bit miffed.

It was a LOT more relaxing to take BART and Muni than to
drive...shuddering. I would have taken the train into SF and then to
BART but unfortunately the number of right-of-ways into the Bay Area
has declined to such an extent that passenger service all what is
called the Capitol Corridor has to stop in the early evening so
freight traffic can run. If it were possible to catch an 11 PM train
I'd spend more evenings in the Bay Area.
