You get to sit there with your son and look at the pictures HE took and help him sort through the ones that are "okay" and the ones where you can say "here's how to avoid that effect in the future" and "oh wow, I'd be proud of THAT one!" Your wife can do the same (always helps to have another point of view.) The result: shared creative moments where you passion gets to interact with your child's creativity. AND it didn't cost you a dime, the young man can erase the pictures he doesn't like and go shoot a bunch more - and maybe make them better. Combined with learning photoshop and the digital whiteroom you'll have a youngster who will learn to think about what he shoots (as he gets older) and you'll be creating a common language of respect for an artistic dialog that can form a basis for and adult to adult communication later in life. Well done. I hope you have printed that image, get him to sign it, and put it up in your home. Adam Bridge (ps: yeah, there's some wish-fulfillment in all of this for me whose parents noted every "bad" image as wasted. It's taken me most of a lifetime to realize that getting one or two good images out of 40 is a good ratio and that it's fine to PLAY and experiment. So yes, it's fixing my own childhood, but I still think what I've written is true. ab) On 6/18/05, Jim McIntyre <mcintyre@ca.inter.net> wrote: > > http://www.jamesstreetphoto.com/beccabycj.html > > Of course I've converted to B&W, done a little sharpening and contrast > adjustment. But the photograph is CJ's.
