A big, well balanced pen, but truth be told, the Parker 51 is great, as are most other quality pens that I've used. Rapidographs clog easily unless you're writing on fairly hard-finished papers or using broad points. I used one for many years and abandoned it instantly when I picked up my first Parker Vacumatic. Vintage pens can be wonderful, but be sure to get one that's been overhauled. I use several inks, but my favorite is Waterman's "South Sea Blue." But, here, too; there're a lot of cool inks out there and no need to fetishize one over the other. With all due respect to Marc, the rapidograph is basically a drawing/drafting instrument, although I know there are people who write with them. And the same applies to the Rotring - and a fine calligraphy point is for - calligraphy, not writing letters, notes, etc. You'll also find that broader points tend to be smoother writers. -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+bdcolen=earthlink.net@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+bdcolen=earthlink.net@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of firkin Sent: Monday, May 02, 2005 7:02 PM To: Leica Users Group Subject: [Leica] Pens: thoughts before I leave Hey, I know this is way away from Leica, and I've always been a good OT boy, so please forgive. I have wanted to buy a good fountain pen for years, and I began looking recently again. I remember some of you have favorite pens: reasons, thoughts and downright opinions now sought --- what fountain pen should a letter writing LUGGER be using ;-) Alastair Firkin www.afirkin.com www.familyofman2.com _______________________________________________ Leica Users Group.
