Subject: [Leica] Leica M3 purchase

Hi Bob,

Your analyse is correct, but there's a psychological consideration, for me
is to be "in love" with the instrument you own, this is the case for me with
the MP, I have a M6TTL, I have modified the VF but it is not the same as the
original VF on the MP. Concerning the rewind mechanism, I prefer the MP and
the M3 system than the one of the M4, M6...., maybe I have a particular
taste...

Cordiales saludos desde Barcelona
Luis

But why pay the current price for an MP - and get that utterly ludicrous
rewind mechanism - when you can buy an M6 TTL for $1100 and for, what,
less than $300, have the MP viewfinder put in it? ;-)

Sorry, but I see the MP as a grossly overpriced toy for the nostalgia
fixated. Yes, it has a better viewfinder - and finally having
acknowledged the DEFECT in the M6 viewfinder system Leica should have at
least been offering to refit the M6s of registered original owners at
cost ;-) - but aside from that, there is absolutely nothing about it
that will in any way improve the photography of a "Leica photographer."
And given that cameras are tools with which to achieve one's
photographic vision, why pay extra for the MP if it can build better
images?

Hi Bob,

I'm agree if somebody is looking for a M6 or M6TTL, but IMO once you
have tried a MP the VF is really much more better than the M6 Saludos

What ever you say, Gene, but here are the prices of the last M6s and
M6TTL to sell on Ebay - $1380 for a .85 TTL $1035 for M6 .72 $1250 M6 in
box $1499 WITH WINDER M $1175 for Chrome M6 .72 $1211 for a TTL $985 for
a chrome M6 with one ding $1154 for .85 TTL And on March 31 an auction
ended with only $1125 being bid for a mint .85 TTL that failed to meet
the reserve.

The prices have dropped through the floor. Now's the time, before Leica
goes belly up, to buy an M6. :-)

Boy, Feli - you haven't priced M6s recently - you're as much as $250
high....;-)

Used with meter:
M6 or M6TTL $1300-1500
MP (demo) $2300

Used no meter:
M4 $1000-1500 (add $250 for a CLA)
M2 $ 800-1400 (add $250 for a CLA)

New:
MP (black)

If I could only have one lens it would be a 35.
