You do not have to use Paypal as the means of payment for an ebay auction. Most of my sales, whether on or off ebay, are paid by bank transfer, but I do offer Paypal as an additional payment option, especially for smaller amounts. And you do not have to give Paypal free reign of your bank account. I have only my Amex card linked to Paypal; when I receive money I transfer it to my Dutch bank account with a few clicks, but Paypal is not authorized to withdraw money from this account.
