that looks like something a not very talented

synecdoche --   figure of speech by which a part is put for the whole
(as 
fifty sail for fifty ships), the whole for a part 

Dear Colleagues,

Virginia has provided us with a classic example of synecdoche in
imagery. 
[Please don't ask me to pronounce it.] In poetry it's a very effective
device. 
Poetry is essentially about imagery. Isn't it great to know there's a
word for 
this type of image and creative thinking? The Greeks had a word for
everything 
we would ever dream about.
