Ted, I am surprised you bought the 50mm 1.8 Canon when there is a 1.4
available! This goes again your principles!!!

Regarding the general issue being discussed here, I use a mix of Canon
and Leica lenses--the 100mm Apo Macro is IMO the best lens in the world
(at least of the lenses available to mere mortals) and the ability to
use it on a digital body was a major factor in choosing Canon when I
decided to get a DSLR. I did sell my 35-70mm Leica R zoom since that
range of view is better covered with the 17-40mm Canon L zoom. I would
love to have the 15mm Leica R lens but it is too pricey, so right now I
am playing with a 14mm Sigma on long-term loan from a friend. I have
also kept my 19mm, 60mm and 180mm Elmarits, both for use on the Canon
and on the Leicaflex SL which I also kept.
