I have owned an R8 and I still own a Leicaflex SL. There is no doubt that the viewfinders of those are superior to that on my 20D. But let's not overdo it: I find the 20D viewfinder perfectly adequate, even when the light is such that ISO settings of 1600 or 3200 are called for. It is good, not great like Leica. As for the while balance, I find it a lot easier to do color correction when I convert the RAW files from the 20D than when I have a slide scan with a cast. And finally, I think that if anything, the Canon pre-sets favor overexposure--on the 10D I had exposure compensation of -1/2 stop set permanently, although the 20D is better in this regard.
