Don't know; haven't got an R-D1.

Do know that it works excellently on my M cameras.

I probably paid $75.-80 for mine 35 years ago. Was it worth it? yes indeed, 
as I have used it fairly frequently. It not only can eliminate reflections 
but can be used carefully to eliminate only a part of the reflections if 
that suits you image. Also darkens blue sky remarkably,l especially with the 
Kodachrome emulsions I use most.

But remember that a brand-new Leica M4 then listed for $450. and would be 
bought for $398.

Today I would probably pause at the current price and weigh my guess as to 
usage against the cost. Just as you should do.
