The M2 and the M3 take an enormous banging. The M4 doesn't seem to be as sturdy. Granted, I don't go around falling and dropping my cameras on granite rock according to scientific prinicples, but the last two times the first two cameras kissed the granite cobblestones of Gothenburg hello they made it just fine (some healty dings, but they made it). The M4 rangefinder gets whacked out all the time. It's now sitting on a shelf after my last fall on the rocks a few weeks ago. Probably just random chance. But that is one the major reasons I use Leicas. It's hard to really get them to look like Kyle's. The other reason is that they are quiet. The glass comes pretty far down the list. I'm usually shooting at such inconvenient shutter speeds anyway that the top quality glass doesn't get a chance to shine. If I keep falling ... and keep getting older ... something's gotta give. Probably my hip bones before the Leicas :-) Daniel On Tue, 25 Jan 2005, B. D.
