Hi Neal,

Nice image, and never apologize for equipment used.

However, there appears to be some vertical banding in the side of the 
face. Did you by any chance use flash?

I have never used the B&W mode on my 20D, since I shoot RAW. Instead, I 
convert to B&W in the RAW converter (if I am feeling lazy) or using the 
Fred Miranda B&W action in Photoshop (if I want more control over the 
conversion).
