The F is really a non-issue because you can get a good, clean, fully
functional F for very little money. The SP is another matter. But at
that price, you're right - the 1DsII is a no brainer.

Maybe I wasn't clear. I'm not a collector by any means. I just sold
off
a bunch of my Leica gear that I wasn't using to pay for my new DSLR
(including my prized collectable 1st version 35 aspherical, much to
Emanuel's chagrin).

If I had $8000 to spend on a camera, and the choice between the Canon
1Ds II and the SP, I wouldn't give the SP a second thought. And I'd use
the Canon as much as I could. But maybe there'd be a third option,
since I'm not a fan of largish cameras like the 1ds II. Maybe I'd buy a
cheaper body and some lenses. Maybe a nice Leica MP and take a trip
with the rest of the cash! But whatever I'd buy, I'd use.

But....I just don't see the point of a camera like the SP, other than
placing in a nice display case by a collector. If Nikon reintroduced
the Nikon F (once a top of the line pro camera which I believe has many
things in common with the SP), would you even consider it?
