Chris,

I obsess about all my interests. Guilty, your honor (got a guilt complex,
too?) But my camera OCD is not to the point of needing therapy; only to the
point of needing more money.

Congratulations on what I perceive to be your newly acquired status as a
fiance.

And never mind about my "equipment, however minimal". I'm not insulting
you, and I don't think you should insult me. :)) :))

Best of luck in your romance and your career............Julian

Hi Julian,

As a practicing psychotherapist, I had great fun reading your email
response! Asking a group of LUG users about the "minimal equipment" needed
on an outing is akin to asking someone with OCD not to wash his or her
hands! That's what I love about this group. I think we all (or at least
myself) are touched (at least minimally) with some OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive
Traits). At least when it comes to cameras. And, in Germany, where I spent
much of my life, OCD is a common affliction, and almost normal! Case in
point, Mr. Ferdinand Porsche, my Opa's classmate in engineering school
"obsessed" about fast cars.....and, I continue to obsess about when I might
be able to afford an M7, M6...(oh ok! It might have to be a Voigtlander
R3A!)

As for minimal equipment, how about a Leica point and shoot (Z2X) and my
Opa's IIIf on my most recent trip to NYC. I got in a bit of trouble when,
after asking my beautiful girlfriend to marry me in Central Park (on a
bridge overlooking the Plaza hotel) I became "truly obsessed" with capturing
the moment. So much so, that I think the romance began dissipating as I
dropped my light meter and broke the film in half in the IIIf. Nonetheless,
true to form, and in her truly classy style, my girlfriend (and now, I'm
happy to report, my fiance) helped "meter" the situation.

By the way, we went to the Leica Gallery in NYC and I have to say that it
was an exceptional experience! The owners are wonderfully friendly and
unpretentious. I almost passed out from excitement, but my fiance kept me
grounded, and I bought a few signed Ralph Gibson books. The pictures on
display were terrific and inspirational.

So, my friends in the world of Leica "obsessions," I wish you well. And, as
a newly minted, and relatively poor therapist, I can tell you in all
sincerity, I am happy to "help" you with your equipment, however minimal! :)

best,
chris
