Of course, this should have been "?tate 17".  Daniel Ridings will
undoubtedly correct me, but I believe that this is an ablative of reference
(aka, ablative of respect), that that final "e" is vital to make the point:
 "at the age of 17".  What you wrote is gibberish in both English and Latin.

Pray, do not continually let the side down, brother:  ask for advice, and
it will be freely forthcoming, before you make a howler such as the one you
just made.
