With unfortunate Hood. Soon I'll get the Elmar. No Hood built in. When I went out shooting on a sunny afternoon, slide 100 film and have the film run project them up on a wall I have covered with white backdrop paper and look at them from often 2 feet away. At 50 times magnification. (50 inches tall around) I'm seeing the trees more than the forest here. I can make comparative grain studies between films. Try to guess which film it is by looking at the grain structure. I'm at the molecular level folks. This as the popular vernacular Du jour goes is my "workflow". It is impossible to remember which lens took which picture that sunny afternoon as I look through those slides. At middle f stops they are indistinguishable. Their micro contrast at the edges my differ. But at 50 times it is not noticeable to me and I have relentless eyes (which does not mean I'm a vegetarian.) I wonder what magnification Erwins device is so he is able make these determinations of "microcontrast" with. (of which I'm grateful for) Perhaps 500 x not 50. Maybe 5000 x! I'd have no way of making an educated guess. Do we fully know what microcontrast is? I picture the superhero "The Atom"* from the 60's comic book series beaming down to the molecular level to get in those hard to reach places to get the bad guy. (The 60's) Repeatedly Ted and myself have said this. If you don?t believe me I'd think you'd believe an internationally known photographer. And others like Tina Manley who is pretty much in the same category I think and Rei Shinozuka; who is known only by us and his immediate family. :) It's a lens that you can just put on your camera and leave it there. Its not going to embarrass you. The results are more than terrific. And as big as your interior white paper covered wall. Up close are far away. No ones going to sit there eating their popcorn as the slides go by and go: "Gee that isn't a Summicron I bet is it it kind of looks crummier!" *The Atom, Ray Palmer, Silver age hero and member of the Justice League of America. Which started out in the 40's as The Justice Society of America. Kind of like the League of Nations only in pre Lycra tights. Why did George Reeves kill himself? Lack of Lycra. He died of embarrassment because of his long baggy underwear with the red S on the front. We assume red. Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Summicron! Yes, it's Summicron. Strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Summicron, who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands, and who, disguised as Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter for a great Metropolitan newspaper... fights a never-ending battle for truth, justice and the American way. http://www.redboots.net/aos/bwtitle.ram http://www.redboots.net/aos/greeves.htm Mark Rabiner Photography Portland Oregon http://rabinergroup.com/
