Unlike standard Leica filters that are known as, for example, E-39, and have a screw-in part that is straight, the ones that fit the Summitar are known as E-36 filters [for Summitar only]. The screw-in part is tapered like an inverted pyramid cut off at the top and screw into the front of the lens. If you look closely at the following picture of an orange E-36, you can see that the filter is tapered. The filter also fits into a screw-on adapter that will allow the E-36's to be used on other Leica lenses as well. Both the filter and the adapter are probably available in used condition for about $25 or more each on the Internet, but appear to be difficult to find, particularly a UV or Sky filter. -- bob cole _http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=www.ritzcam.com/catalog/images/E36JOrr .jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.ritzcam.com/cgi-bin/listing.pl%3Fsort%3Dd%26cat510%3 D510&h=233&w=288&sz=31&tbnid=eDBCQp74u2AJ:&tbnh=88&tbnw=108&start=2&prev=/imag es%3Fq%3De-36%2Bfilter%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26sa%3DG%26edition%3Dus_ (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=www.ritzcam.com/catalog/images/E36JOrr.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.ritzcam.com/cgi-bin/listing.pl?sort=d&cat510=510&h= 233&w=288&sz=31&tbnid=eDBCQp74u2AJ:&tbnh=88&tbnw=108&start=2&prev=/images?q=e- 36+filter&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&sa=G&edition=us)
