Unfortunately (fortunately ?), Cal Poly required all of its engineers to
take technical writing courses as a minimum. We also had to take and pass
a writing and English proficiency test before they would allow us to
graduate.

One of the appealing features of the engineering curriculum at my school
was a notable lack of coursework that required writing papers.
