i'd just seen sal on friday the 4th, he seemed fit and happy. more than an
great professional photographer in a world of pretenders, he was a generous
teacher and an exceptionally kind man. though he had the credentials for
snobbery, there was not a trace of it within him; he would spend his time
and equally between the great photographers of the world and rank amateurs,
as far as i could tell, he had no preference. i will miss him.
