When compared to the digital do everything radios out of Japan these days, which I do own one, the Collins is very simple, almost M like, to operate. The same can be said of the Vibroplex Bug keys. By the way, I have serial number 002 of the special edition Collins key. ;-) Of course I did work on this project with the president of Vibroplex, so I was in a good position to get it. ;-) Gene |---------+--------------------------------------------------------> | | Peter Klein <pklein@2alpha.net> | | | Sent by: | | | lug-bounces+grduprey=rockwellcollins.com@leic| | | a-users.org | | | | | | | | | 06/02/2004 12:30 PM | | | Please respond to Leica Users Group | | | | |---------+--------------------------------------------------------> >-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | | | To: lug@leica-users.org | | cc: | | Subject: Re: [Leica] Dayton 2004 photos | >-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| Mike: As Gene well knows, Collins and Vibroplex users and collectors have a lot in common with Leica people. The Collins S-Line was the Leica of tube-based ham radio equipment. The Vibroplex "bug" is a jewel of a mechanical device. For those unfamiliar, it's a semiautomatic telegraph key that sends the Morse code "dots" by means of a vibrating spring. Devotees of Collins and Vibroplex are fanatical. The equipment is technically obsolete but capable of the finest results when operated by knowing hands. And the average age of the users is. . . well, see the other pictures :-) Sound familiar? --Peter Klein Seattle, WA Mike Durling <durling@cox.net> wrote: > Just goes to show you, its not just Leica people. re.
