This one pretty much summarizes what happens if you try to photograph a building or photograph near a building. I got stopped and hassled by a sheriff for trying to photograph a blue heron about 70 miles downriver from here. Too close to a refinery to allow photography. Amendment IV - The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. Not only is this a clear intrusion on the tenth amendment, but it seems like a start up the 'slippery slope' of abridging the first amendment. So far, street photographers are banned from taking shot in and around subways, as I understand, and possibly in other venues of public transportation. Who is to say that there might not be a ban on photographing interesting looking people since the attention might be construed as something sinister- photographing ugly people might hurt their self esteem, or photographing people eating might cause some mental trauma in the 'victims'. As far as Abu Ghraib is concerned- I did not see any dead bodies, no-one was bleeding, and there were no stacks of gassed or mutilated corpses, nor decapitated journalists to be seen. I am not condoning the behavior- by and large we are above such things, and what was done was disgusting. I must say, however, that if humiliating, and denigrating someone is a crime, then some of the Reponses I've seen on this list would damn near be felonies! Best of light to you!
