Despite being a collector of 50mm lenses, I haven't purchased the
Noctilux for the reasons that you mention as well as the weight and
price. A 50/1.2 is as razor-thin as I need.

Actually, I hate the razor-thin dof with the noctilux, find it
unrealistic and distracting - particularly in daylight situations it
creates an images that looks as though it's constructed by layering
paper cutouts. I'm absolutely convinced that if the noct somehow had
reasonably depth of field at f 1 - say2-3-4-6 inches, people who had
paid whatever for the lens would rave out about...The non-existant dof
is, to my way of viewing, a real draw-back, particularly as there is
absolutely no real-world situation, other than perhaps threading a
needle, where that's what the human eye perceives..so I'm reasonably
happy with f 2 - at smaller aps there is just too damn much dof...

Nice shot. The white, out of focus highlights are distracting. I would
either clone 'em out or burn 'em out.

I read through messages, open links, and continue reading while the
pictures open. After I saw this, I went back to your message 'cos I
thought I must have the wrong link...I thought you had said Noctilux. I
expected to see the razor-thin DOF that Rei uses so masterfully.

This is why I'm holding out for a full frame, reasonably priced digital.
Even at f2, the DOF is relatively huge for the small sensors.
