Actually, you can do it by feel.  I do it all the time.  I'm a happy user of
the "rose" on/off switch.  Works perfectly on my M6TTL.

What's wrong with setting the shutter dial to off?  It can still drain a
battery if it's slightly depressed.  No problems with battery drain since I
got the "rose."  If I'm looking through the viewfinder and I don't see the
meter lights, my fingers know how to turn the battery cover so I get power.
It's really simple and intuitive.  And saves on dead batteries.

I'm glad I bought one.
