B.D.
The test was at 100 EI. There was no PS work other than RAW conversion
and sizing for the print. The point of the test was to see what the
hardware could do. It was a blind test: the image file was handed to an
individual who set black and white points, sized the image, and output
it on an Epson 9600 if I remember correctly.

As to the other benefits of the E1, as an SLR with interchangeable
lenses, DUH!

As what iso? With what length lens? Color or black and white? Photoshop
work done by who? Etc. etc. etc. Because I can tell you the e-1 is a
damn site better than the C5060, and this German photo magazine - which
we would expect to have a soft spot in it's heart for Leica - says that
under controlled conditions the Digi II isn't quite up to the quality of
the C5060...

How does the digiII, which is meant to look and function like an M,
compare to the E-1 at 800 iso? Or 1600? Or 3200? Oh, it doesn't go above
400?...So how does it compare at 400 - I assume the testing was done at
100 or 200?....How does its 22-44 zoom compare to the E-1s? It's 100-400
f 2.8-3.5? It's 300 f2? Oh, it doesn't have them? Ah...I forgot. ;-)

All,
Looking at actual results under controlled conditions, the Digilux II
looked better at 16X20 than the Olympus E1. At 16X20 the II looked
better than the 5060 or the 8080? ( 8MP Olympus P&S ) at 11X14 during
the DIMA shoot out. So if image quality is why you are looking at non
DSLR's then the Panasonic and Leica offerings should still be on the
table of consideration.

Other factors including size, ergonomics, and price of course still come
into play.

Just to be clear (and correct), your statement should read: "slightly
ahead of the Panasonic". The digi2 wasn't tested (will be next month)
but they did give the reader a comparison between the Panasonic and the
Digilux 2 (the bundled software).

Now, I doubt that the extra price tag will necessarily give it the edge
over the Panasonic and thus the Olympus :)
