Well, in a sense but I wouldn't risk alienating Mark with that association. I believe many folks would never accept they were "had" or want to admit to others such an event occurred. So to come forward takes an extraordinary amount of courage. It isn't Marks action which aids the "con", but the inability of the community to support the courage of its members. If and when the other party surfaces to defend their integrity, I have no doubt this community will go all out to support them as well. As it should be because coming forward takes courage regardless of right or wrong, and should be supported. Ultimately all of us are responsible for fostering a culture that minimizes personal risk. If I'm not mistaken that is one definition of a functional community.

Yes, and by keeping silent, Mark is aiding the seller in his fraudulent deal.

My experience (always the hard way) has been consistent: No response, you've been ripped off, it's a sad feeling and a familiar one. But this isn't the real issue, this guy got caught falsely advertising a product, no one disputes this, and for that there is little defense. His advertisement was clear and if he couldn't be sure he could back up his claim before sale then he had no business selling the camera. There are only two possibilities, he is a fool, or a con artist. If he is a fool then restitution or recrimination is his only recourse, if a con artist then silence is his best ally.
