To me, "mint" means as the item came from the manufacturer...or the mint...having had absolutely no use whatsoever. That is, unless one really does mean derived from the essential oils of the spearmint and peppermint families of plants. Everything else is just sloppy language usage or the misrepresentation of goods on offer. In KEH terms, mint doesn't mean like new...there are several categories above it, like "New" "As New" "Like New" and "Like New Minus". What really annoys me that, to some folks, "Excellent" means "average" as in well used but no major dings. I'm sorry...and not that the referenced lens isn't a very fine unit...but what is better than mint? Perhaps the collection of photographica has progressed to the level of numismatics, in which there seem to be near infinite levels of "mint" state. Maybe by "mint or better" you mean something like chocolate.
