Good to hear from you B.D., with all the cold up in your part of the
world your fingers could have been stuck to a single malt instead of the
keyboard.

The problem with judging by the ASA is that sometimes films are down or
uprated. My children behind the net photo was some TMZ that I was
trying at 1600 to see if I could tolerate the film. When I grabbed the
camera I thought I had Neopan 1600 in it which would have been a much
better choice.

Excellent suggestion. Of course, on the other hand, since we're talking
about 400 asa color neg film in both cases - as that's essentially what
TCN is - and you don't plan to push it, why not just shoot? It's not as
though the question is "am I shooting K64 slides or Delta 3200 b&w
negs?" ;-)

Eric,
Get a pad of "post it" notes in the color of your choice, borrow a mini
labs stack cutter and cut off everything but the sticky strip at the
top. You will have a 1/4 inch strip that you can write on, doesn't
leave an adhesive residue, and will fit either on the strip of metal on
the back under the wind lever or on the bottom plate. Beside basic film
stock you can also add notes about pushing/pulling and or subject matter
that can then be peeled off the camera and stuck on the film can.

Kyle, you can use 'Hello Kitty" pink if you like.

Ok - it has starting hapening to me (at a tender early age).. As a
weekend warrior photographer I often pick up my M7 on a Saturday
morning to shoot.
Counter often says frame 15 or 16 - but hmmm.. what is in camera? Did I
last
shoot TCN or Fuji Press 400? Rats - no way to know until I finish the
roll.

Any nifty ideas for remembering what film you have in your camera. No
wise-guy answers please. Llike a post-it on your forehead..

I have taken to taking a bit of the film's box and slipping it into the
hotshoe - but it seems rather inelegant.

forgetful in frigid new england,
Eric
