Hi Eric,
Sorry to disagree with you, but I think it's an "almost perfect swishy pan"
as I call this type of picture illustrating motion which I try when shooting
some sports to capture the action.

In this case B.D. pretty well hit it on the mark for the blur, yet maintains
an understandable photo with sharp & blurred areas in the moving bodies as
it should be with this type of technique. Because if you do a swishy pan and
it's so blurry the viewer can't understand what it is then it doesn't work,
certainly in B&W.

The background isn't relevant and should be a blur with the couple blurred
enough to give the feeling they're moving right along so B.D.'s camera
action is very close to being right on the mark.

And this type of shooting is hit or miss no matter how often one does it
because the results are always in the hands of the Photo God's whether they
work or not. ;-)

Actually doing swishy pans in B&W is a challenge any time due to not having
colour contrasts for a better feeling of motion. In B&W, quite often the
blurs are varying degrees of grey-white and they don't make for a clear
action feel.

In this shot of the bridal couple there's enough black-white-grays and so
motion is captured well enough to see what it is and the bride and groom are
communicating.

I think. ;-)
