What you have is a very high resolution lens with relatively low contrast. You ask what that means: your negatives will have a tremendous amount of detail but the differences in tonality will be relatively minor compared to a modern lens formulation. Well, what does that mean to the bottom line image? To be really blunt, PS makes this lens sing, a little USM and some curve adjustments and you have a wonderful image. Two things to note about the DR, compared to modern lenses it is prone to veiling flare and second, even a clean one needs to be CLA'd for best results as even the newest are something like 35 years old. Also, pick the person who does the CLA very carefully as there are some air lenses that need to be spaced to spec or the lens performs poorly. This first link was taken in very late evening light just behind the NYC library. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=846770&size=lg My second image demonstrates that the lens handles color just fine. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=607793&size=lg I must admit however that I don't have an image up that really demonstrates what this lens can do. I have seen some images with it that impress, with their resolution and fine detail...thanks, Steve - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
