I use the bottles of ink on the 1160, and I am amazed how long they
last...In fact I have the impression that the latest version of the
Epson archival matte paper, which is called Enhanced Matte, may drink up
less ink. I don't know if that makes any sense, but I really think I'm
going through the ink at a slower rate than I was...

Chris -

The 3000 has huge ink cartridges and I'm using the twice-as-big
cartridges 
for the 9600, which stick out but work fine.  The regular sized-3000 
cartridges last me about a year.  I've printed thousands with these big 
cartridges and they aren't half-used yet.
