According to him, that era had far better women photographer than Arbus. But then I always felt he was slightly biased. Apparently Arbus went around taking images of people telling them it was for an article in the magazine. When some time went by, and the image didn't run, they would call to complain, only to find out that there never was any article. The editor then decided to cancel her press credential. I can't imagine Arbus not getting bent out of shape over that. Gotta remember that Doon Arbus was an Avedon assistant and a subsequent crony. It helped immensely in the marketing of her mother's work.
