You would also have to design a new lens line for the chip. One of the things that Olympus is doing with the new lens line is mapping each lens at each aperture and a large number of distances. This information is burned on a chip housed in the lens that tells the CPU in the camera how to process the information coming off the CCD to correct for flaws in the lens. So, another long shot would be ROM lenses for a digitalesque M that tell the processor how much a lens vignettes and how much to boost or limit specific color information. Sadly, none of this helps retain usefulness for the current lens line. But, if well done, would lead to relatively huge sales for Leica.
