hasn't leica always been supported by a base of well-heeled-amatuers? while
the leica has certainly been used by well-known photojournalists
(including peter parker http://www.shinozuka-family.com/spiderman ), wasn't
the rollei and speedgraphic the dominant professional's camera during the
30's, 40's and 50's, and then nikon and canon and hasselblad SLRs in the 60's
and onward?

the fact that the majority of pros may not use the leica M now (or ever)
does not in any way diminish its appeal to me, nor does not relegate it in my
opinion to the status of "photographic jewelry."

after all the "professional driver's car" (as defined as the car which is most
used by people who are paid to drive) in new york city is the ford crown
victoria, then the chevy caprice and the lincoln towncar.
