This was a bit of a loaded question, I guess, but I didn't want to give the whole story without getting some feedback first. I had decided to go ahead and submit this image knowing that it was imperfect. I thought fixing the tilt would crop out too much of the top of the carousel. And I decided that the tilt added a bit of uneasiness that I wanted to include anyway. (What the heck, I'm an anesthetist by trade and I'm used to inducing nausea....). So I was careful to print it with as much detail as I could, and toned it carefully for a triple-banding effect that seemed to provide bright extreme highlights, creamy warmth in the high tones and a cold undercurrent in the low tones. Then I learned how to dry mount, cut an overmat and frame it up. The process was, after all, the nature of my desire to enter the competition - to push my skills. Knowing the limitations of the composition I expected no ribbons but was pumped by the idea of seeing my framed print on the wall in an exhibition. And I thought the framed print was worth exhibition. Trouble is, it was flatly rejected by the jury - not allowed into the exhibition at all. Since I really wasn't expecting THAT much of a rejection for a piece that was at least a serious attempt at art, I wanted to query the list. Printed 11x14, dry mounted, over matted and framed 16x20. http://www.sleepytom.com/images/horses2.jpg Thanks, Tom - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
