Subject: RE: [Leica] Leica USA no longer selling repair parts

Management probably figured how much money they would make if all the M2, M3, etc, users were forced to buy new equipment. Heck, it works in the computer industry, I've gone through one desktop and two laptops in 7 years, each about the price of an M6. I agree that it doesn't make sense, increasing the price for parts would probably make them more money then closing down independent repair. I suspect this is one step in a larger more sinister program.

The sad reality, Ted, is that just about the only people who even know
what Leica is anymore are we "weird people on the internet."

No, I'm sure Herr Cohn doesn't give a rats behind what we think - and
that's why Leica finally reached the point where it had to turn to a
handbag company to stay alive.

One of the real attractions of Leica over all these years has been the
thought that you can always get parts, always get them repaired and keep
them going - and you can do it by sending your camera to one of the
independent craftspersons like Sherry or DAG, etc. etc.

This latest move on Leica's part really shows how astoundingly stupid
the management is - how out of touch with the world of the users of the
products.

Bill Barton said wisely:

Hi Bill,
Thanks for a calm analytical look at this situation, as folks appear to
be jumping into a pot of water without knowing whether it's boiling or
ice cold!

This situation has two major sides to it and no one here knows both
sides, unless they're keeping their mouth shut about one of them.
Besides, all the "letter writing etc" being talked about here is already
in Solms and New Jersey anyway, as I don't have any doubts it's read and
fed to Leica daily!

And if it isn't I'd be very surprised .

And once again I'd like to point out as I've done in the past, the "Real
World of the Leica corporation" does not revolve around the LUG & LEG or
affiliate sites of the internet.

Yep I don't have any doubt they, LEICA, have someone within the
corporation monitoring every Leica site picking out the gems, yes we do
on occasion have gem ideas. ;-) Of course keeping in mind how brilliant
we must appear on days and days of seemingly "other off topic subjects"
where they look at anything said on LUG or LEG with a barrel of salt as
meaningless drivel by a collection of strange and weird people of the
internet world!;-)

Do I think this anxiousness by members and threats of "I'm never buying
another Leica" sent to Herr Cohn is going to give him sleepless nights?
Highly unlikely! But it will give him something to think about for a
minor nano second and be dismissed as "those weird people on the
internet."

I'm now open for your un-merciful attack folks! But do be serious though
and put yourselves in the business perspective as Bill Barton has
explained before you launch an uncontrolled frontal assault!

>>> I don't like this either, but Leica is trying to stay alive....<<<<

ted.
