...but sheep are so warm and fuzzy...Your not confused it seems, rather bewildered by the fact so many people are unknowingly subjugated by forces barely perceptible because they are accepted without question by all of us.  Example, all forms of advertising, every formula sitcom, Hollywood movie, every news cast, every glossy magazine, all corporate PR, all major newspapers...they send the same message- capitalism equals democracy equals freedom equals liberty equals America.  This isn't an accident; one only has to go back to Walter Lippman's essays of the 1920 where the idea of a unified public mind became the only hope for a successful Democracy.  To create a unified public mind, experts (he explains) will need to interpret the complicated fabric of modern society and help us reach conclusions and opinions about it.  We reply with a nod, they're experts after all, Haaarvard educated and all.  It is one of the greatest propaganda systems ever created by mankind, and most folks don't even believe it exists.  How could one believe it without a point of reference?

I feel confused when a large number of folks (i hesitate to say a majority) seem to agree on, reach consensus, regarding a needed change, and then acquiesce to the status quo. Short of revolution have we lost the moxie to hold our ³representative¹s² accountable for steering this boat in the general direction we¹d like to go?
