Don't be too quick to replace the lens if you happen to get a 1(a). Try it first. If you want the higher contrast of a coated lens there are later coated examples of the Elmar in LTM. Another alternative the Russian Industar, which is an Elmar clone, is often available coated. It is quite nice also. Remember that the Elmars have fewer air-glass surfaces than more complex lenses so the need for multi-coating is probably less.
