You may be onto something here.  At the time when I was having reticulation 
problems with Tri-X, Ilford's Delta 3200 came out fine after having been 
processed with the same chemistry and equipment including the thermometer.  
The old thermometer, BTW, read about 15 deg. F lower than a fever thermometer 
when both were used to check the water bath temperature for E6 processing.
